Greyhound Racing Ireland has launched a new initiative to encourage new greyhound ownership in Ireland. The Let’s Get Racing 2016 event was unveiled at Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium in Dublin on Saturday night.
Let’s Get Racing 2016 will be open to unraced greyhounds only and they must have completed at least one qualifying trial over 525yds or Sprint distance. The event will be hosted at the Shelbourne Park, with Sales taking place on Friday 19th August.
All greyhounds purchased at this sale will be eligible for exclusive entry into a Unraced 525yd Sweepstakes to be held in September, with an expected combined prize fund of over €34,000.
Let’s Get Racing 2016 was developed by the Sales and Ownership Committee, which includes representatives of the GRI Regulation & Welfare Department, Greyhound Stadia and Greyhound Industry representatives. The event is supported by sponsors Red Mills, Newpark Stud, Droopys Stud and www.FFKSires.com.
Speaking about the initiative, Phil Meaney, Chairman of the Greyhound Racing Ireland said “Lets Get Racing 2016 is an exciting and unique opportunity for the Irish public to become involved in Greyhound Ownership. I would like to particularly acknowledge the sponsorship and support of Red Mills and Stud-keepers in bringing this project to life. All of the greyhounds will be ready to race, but new owners will have the chance to get involved at the very start of their careers. There’s a potential for some really promising future stars, maybe even a possible Derby winner, which would give the new owners a fantastic return on a relatively small investment.”
