How This Supports the RCÉ/GRI 5-Year Strategic Plan

RCÉ/GRI's 5-Year Strategic Plan sets out to ensure sustainability, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance are embedded in GRI’s core activities.

The Climate Action Plan targets a 51% reduction in GHG emissions and a 50% improvement in energy efficiency by 2030 and are fully aligned with the Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility pillar of our strategy.

This SEAI performance update demonstrates:

1. Delivery Against Strategic Goals

• - Sustainability Leadership:  GRI’s 50.1% CO₂ reduction since baseline shows how RCÉ/GRI are already ahead of the curve nationally, directly supporting the plan’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

• - Operational Efficiency:   A 36.7% improvement in energy efficiency means lower running costs, better resource allocation, and measurable progress on efficiency targets.

• - Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Planned renewable energy projects and efficiency upgrades align with the plan’s drive to innovate in facility management and operations.

2. Evidence-Based Reporting

• - These SEAI M&R figures provide quantifiable KPIs to track progress annually, feeding into RCÉ/GRI's  Strategic Plan Tracking Template.

• - Results are integrated into RCÉ/GRI's internal benefit realisation tracker, giving RCÉ/GRI and stakeholders visibility of environmental and cost savings.

3. Stakeholder Confidence

• - Demonstrating RCÉ/GRI’s compliance with S.I. 426 of 2014 and alignment with the Department of Agriculture’s climate commitments reassures Government, funders, and the public that GRI is a responsible public sector body.

• - Shows alignment with national momentum as outlined in SEAI Energy in Ireland 2024, reinforcing RCÉ/GRI’s relevance and leadership in the public sector.

4. Long-Term Readiness

• - By targeting the remaining 13.3% energy efficiency gap and 43.2% CO₂ reduction needed by 2030, GRI is planning well beyond the 5-year strategy period, future-proofing facilities and operations.

• - Efficiency gains will free up resources for reinvestment into racing infrastructure, welfare, and industry development.
