BRASCO SETS THE STANDARD AT KILKENNY

BRASCO SETS THE STANDARD AT KILKENNY

Ian Fortune

The wonderfully named Doggie Brasco set the standard in the opening round of the TIME Greyhound Nutrition A3 525 at Kilkenny on Friday night, in doing so completing a heat double for handler Karol Ramsbottom.

He wasn’t the only man to record a double in the valuable stake as Tom Lennon also recorded a brace, sending out the first and last heat winners.

HOW FAST IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW

Doggie Brasco took Heat 6 with a fine display from the outside box.

Only third into the turn, he moved second as they hit the back straight before taking over into the third turn. Owned by the Glamdog Millionaires, the son of Dorotas Wildcat and Lemon Skylar eased on to beat the early pace-setter Chiltern Peacock by five lengths in 29.15.

ROLEX ON TIME

Explosive Rolex had earlier initiated the double for Ramsbottom when maintaining the unbeaten start to his career.

In control from the early yards, Peter Sutcliffe’s son of Explosive Boy and Zipping Sassy went on to beat Beebees Dream by three and a half lengths in 29.55.

MUNDY ON SONG

Lemon Mundy was the fastest of Tom Lennon’s two winners.

Owned jointly by Michael Kennedy, Lemon Mundy was never under any pressure once turning in front. The son of Ballymac Bolger and Lemon Phoebe extended clear to win by the final heat by six and a half lengths from Killinure King in 29.18.

MILO COMES THROUGH

Lemon Milo had to work a fraction harder in the opening heat but, ultimately, was too strong for long-time leader Hillroad Stevie before containing the late charge of Hows Things Now.

Taking over at the final turn, Lemon Milo (Ballymac Best/ Cats Belle) held off his rival by a half length in 29.36.

PA ALWAYS IN CHARGE

Fastest of the remaining heat winners was Birchfild Pa, who took Heat 2 for Thomas Leahy and the B Bots Syndicate.

The son of Droopys Buick and Droopys Cutey made every inch to come home two lengths clear of Deelish Laura in 29.29.

NO NEED TO WAKE UP RAKEY

Wakeywakey Rakey made the most of a wide draw in Heat 4.

The wide running son of Pestana and Swift Zap was always wide of hi rivals in third before making his move in the latter stages. Long Senorita faded home, leaving Wakeywakey Rakey to come through in the closing yards for a length and a half victory over Grace And Laura in 29.30.

FIFI LEAVES IT LATE

Pat Sinnott sent out Blackstone Fifi (Dorotas Wildcat/ Blackstone Flyer) to win Heat 5.

This contest went down to the wire with Blackstone Fifi only moving to the front in the final strides after sitting way of the pace for much of the way. Charging home, she got the better of Avongate Sturdy by a neck in 29.70.

A WISE DISPLAY

The Thomas Buggy trained Kilgraney Wise produced a fine effort to win the penultimate heat. Owned by Rosemary Buggy and William Scanlon, the son of Laughil Blake and Kilgraney Dubh worked his way to the front on the corner before going on to make every yard thereafter for a two and a half-length victory over No More Fiftys in 29.47.
