TUNE IS A REAL FUTURE STAR

Future Tune is certainly on an upward curve, so much so that he is now the one to beat in the Future Champion & Michael Fortune Memorial at Enniscorthy on Easter Sunday.

On Thursday evening, the hugely promising son of Droopys Sydney and Starry Display posted a fastest of the competition 28.64 on his way to a brilliant semi-final success. 

It was the display of a greyhound with a massive future. Although not the fastest into stride, the July ’20 whelp flew into the turn to assume control. Jim Be Slick and Ballymac Run both broke smartly but neither had an answer to Future Tune.

Shooting between his two rivals, he hit the corner with over a length in hand on Jim Be Slick. By the second bend he had almost two and a half lengths in hand and still he turned the screw. By halfway he had over three lengths on his pursuer and he went on to hit the third turn with four lengths to spare.

It was evident he was on his way to a very quick run.

Maintaining a strong gallop to the line, Tom Hennessy and Andrew Moloney’s Future Tune left those present with no doubt that he is a potential star. Stopping the clock in a rapid 28.64, he saw off Jim Be Slick by five lengths. Stefans Rock was a further two lengths adrift in third.

MOLDOVA POUNCES LATE

The complexion of the opening heat changed in the final stages with long-time leader Roanna Scooby fading notably to allow both Paradise Moldova and Ballymac Darcia come through.

Paradise Moldova missed the start and slipped onto the fence but was fifth into the turn.

Up front, Ballymac Darcia held a narrow advantage into the turn from trap three but Roanna Scooby shot up the fence to take over on the bend. The result gap allowed Paradise Moldova to move third by the second bend.

The race was now on. Roanna Scooby continued to dictate down the far side but his rivals were poised to challenge if he displayed any signs of fatigue. That’s exactly what happened. The leader’s stride began to shorten as they entered the straight and this allowed Paradise Moldova and Ballymac Darcia to make their move.

Staying tight to the fence, Paradise Moldova was left with room to challenge as Roanna Scooby moved to the middle of the track. Owned by David Buckley and Sean Meade, the son of Magical Bale and Paradise Summer came through to score by a length from Ballymac Darcia in 29.01. Roanna Scooby a short head away in third.

CRYSTAL FASTEST IN PLATE

Elite Crystal set the standard in the semi finals of the Future Champion & Whitewood Kennels Plate. Trained by Myles Roban for the Somemothersdohave Syndicate, the daughter of Magical Bale and Paradise Summer led from the corner to see off Longslip Sue by two lengths in 29.10. Ketch Up Sheila was three and a half lengths adrift in third.

The second heat saw Outdoor Ace come out on top for David Morris and Jane Elizabeth Irons. The son of Ballymac Best and Express Micro just cleared the turn despite taking a couple of bumps and then held off the late charge of Likeable Lodge by three parts of a length in 29.45. the always prominent Ballinabola Lucy was just a half lengths adrift in third.
