Given how busy it was at the weekend, we were late getting around to the brilliant debut display of Beepers Tommy at Dundalk on Friday night.
It comes as no surprise that a few were taking notice, however, as word came through this morning that he has changed hands.
The talented son of Ballymac Cashout and Sive To One was bought as a twelve-week-old pup by Lennie and Paddy O’Hanlon and they were more than delighted with his debut display. The March ’24 whelp was razor-sharp, flashing from traps before emerging a wide margin winner in a stunning 21.18.
To highlight just how fast that was, Droopys Patriot won his semi-final of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup the following evening in 21.16.
It was certainly an impressive run from the youngster and it will be his last as Beepers Tommy and for Lennie and Paddy as Kevin Hennessy was soon in touch and has since purchased the bright prospect for John Boyle. Unlike most of John’s purchases, this fella won’t carry the Boylesports prefix but will instead be renamed Early Payout.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Lenny and Paddy have sold one to Kevin and John. Back in 2018, Ulysses won the Texacloth Puppy Derby at Newbridge for the O’Hanlons before being sold to John Boyle. He would be renamed Boylesports Xtra and develop into one of the best and most consistent greyhounds of 2019 and 2020.
Indeed, he is fondly remembered by many for his most significant win in the 2019 Night of Stars 525 when all his winnings were donated to the Séan ‘Shiner’ Ryan appeal.
Séan had suffered an awful crash in Australia just days earlier and was in need to cover costs on the other side of the world. Boylesports Xtra had clearly read the script because he rocketed from traps to dominate throughout, stopping the clock in a sizzling 28.09 and handing €10,000 to the appeal.
If Beepers Tommy, or Early Payout as he will be known, turns out to be as good everyone involved on both sides of the sale will be delighted. Incidentally, Lennie O’Hanlon has a few more very well bred litters on the way so he may not have to wait too long for another good one.
