MAG WITH A COOLA DISPLAY TO LAND WHEATLEY MEMORIAL

Ian Fortune

Cola Mag may have been sent to traps a 5-1 chance for the Eamon Wheatley Memorial at Newbridge on Friday night but there was no stopping the daughter of Broadstrand Bono and Knockmitten Mag as she ran on well to lead in the closing yards.

Hillroad Stevie set a strong pace from the outside box but he was always under threat from those in behind. Sir Matt was second for much of the way with Coola Mag third but the last named switched wide off the final turn to make her move. Owned by the Cure Syndicate, Coola Mag was too strong, launching herself at the line to eventually beat Geneva Betsy by a neck in 28.98 with Hillroad Stevie the same distance away in third.
