CAMPION TAKEOVER AT CLONMEL AS SENORITA LANDS FEATURE

Peter Farrell

There were several eye-catching performances at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium on Sunday night but Paraic Campion stole the show as he sent out a trio of winners.

The treble was kick-started in spectacular style in race three as Warrenstown Boy (4/6) recorded a fifteenth career victory. Owned by Osmond Bennett, the April 20’ whelp is a top-class sprinter and although slightly outpaced by Wilderness Magic in the opening yards, he tracked brilliantly to fly up the inside at the first turn. From here, the son of Magical Bale and Road Queen set a blistering gallop on the run for home and he raced to a two length victory over Wilderness Magic, in a flash 16.18.

The big race on the night was the final of the Clonmel Track Members A2/A3 525, which offered a winner’s purse of €1,200. Again, this was claimed by Paraic Campion as Burgess Senorita duly obliged in some fashion. Jointly owned by JJ Fennelly and Sheila Spillane, the even money favourite made no mistakes as she bolted from trap three to soon take control. Outpacing her rivals down the back, the daughter of Droopys Sydney and Burgess Helena set a fantastic gallop as she crossed the line six lengths clear of Tullovin Bale in second. The time was a swift 28.62 .10s.

The treble was completed in the opening semi final of the Freddie & Timmy Campion Memorial Guys & Dolls 525 as Hollyhill Billy secured a fourth straight victory for Gerard Gubbins and Paraic Campion. A 2/1 chance, she had made every inch of the running in her three prior starts and she followed a similar tactic this time around with a good start from three. This time around, the daughter of Confident Rankin had to contend with Radioactive Boy in the opening yards but she did so expertly in rounding the opening corner clear. Setting a fine gallop thereafter, she was two lengths better off than her aforementioned rival crossing the line. The time was 29.12 .10s.
