Ian Fortune

Friday’s feature at Shelbourne Park was the final of the RCETS A2 525 and Catunda Ronnie produced a career best display to leave his rivals standing.

It was part of a wonderful double for Michael Byrne after Catunda Roman won the opener.

Catunda Ronnie, an October ’19 son of Droopys Jet and Catunda Yvonne, broke fastest rom the inside box and never saw another rival. Coonough Pogba did close on Catunda Ronnie down the back and up the run in but could never get back on terms. Instead, Catunda Ronnie emerged an impressive and deserving winner by a length in 28.60.

Earlier Catunda Roman initiated the Michael Byrne double when doing everything right in a trap to line success in the A6 opener. The son of Catunda Firmino and Cabra Angel ran out a seven length winner over Highview Reality in 29.08.

Jamie McGee’s well bred son of Ballymac Bolger and Beaming Smasher was simply too good for hi rivals, making every inch after a slick exit to run out a ready seven and a half length scorer in 28.62. Lord Precious was always second.

The opening heat saw Saffron Mick also making every inch. Trained by Ray Melia or Patrick Reddy, the son of Ballymac Best and Saffron Sky was always in control as he saw off Bloos Sir Duke by two lengths in 29.12.
