GARY SILCOCK

GARY SILCOCK

Greyhound racing lost a great friend in recent days with the passing of Lurgan based handler Gary Silcock.

A quiet, unassuming man, Gary enjoyed his work with the dogs and meeting people at the tracks.

He had a loyal owner and friend in Michael Fitzpatrick for whom Gary trained many winners under Michael's “Santro” prefix. The majority would have run around Dundalk but he was never afraid to journey to Shelbourne Park with one if he felt they were good enough.

Through his many years in the sport, Gary had some real stars. Aside from the “Santro” dogs, he also trained a few others to make headlines including the wonderful Isabels Boy. A son of Gary’s own stud dog, Foleys Folley, he made the final of the 2012 Juvenile Derby at Harold’s Cross, eventually finishing a good second. The aforementioned Foleys Folley went on to sire some real stars including Brendan Matthews’ Kirby Memorial champ and Derby finalist Cable Bay.

A popular figure and a doggy man to his core, Gary will be greatly missed on the tracks of Ireland, particularly Dundalk where he was part of the furniture.

We send on our sincerest condolences to his son and daughter, Stephen and Kerri, their partners Jane and Henry, his beloved grandchildren Maddie, Rose and Ruby, his extended family and many friends. May He Rest In Peace.
