NELLY A DESERVING WINNER OF NEWBRIDGE GOTY

NELLY A DESERVING WINNER OF NEWBRIDGE GOTY

Ian Fortune

It’s that time of the year when various tracks are recognizing their stars of the previous twelve months.

Newbridge did just that at the weekend, presenting their Dog of the Year prize and the lucky recipient after a stellar year was Nellys Twink.

Owned by Colette Ennis and Megan Dee in Robertstown, the daughter of Magical Bale and Midas Fern began her career back in January, winning on debut before adding a further seven wins to her tally ahead of the year end.

Incredibly, she achieved all this despite taking a five month break through the summer after coming in season. Ahead of her spell on the sidelines, the June ’21 whelp won four times including in an impressive 28.86 over the standard trip and 17.53 for 325yds.

She carried on exactly how she left of when returning in September, winning in a superb 28.73. She added another three wins through November and December, ending the year on a real high as she clocked a rapid 28.69 on December 29th.

She ended the year with a wonderful record of eight wins from thirteen starts and is a more deserving winner of the award. Congratulations to Colette and Megan and their wonderful tracker Nellys Twink.

Who knows? She could potentially win the award again in 2024. She certainly has started the right way, claiming a ninth career victory in her only start this year in 28.84. There are likely many more wins to come.
