BEN THE LATEST STAR TO EMERGE FROM ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

Once again, Enniscorthy provided the perfect platform for a new star to emerge on Monday night as the July Open Unraced got underway with Betgoodwin Ben taking the headlines with a stunning 28.58 return.

It was perhaps no surprise given the fact he had posted 28.17 around Limerick in a trial prior to his debut.

Owned by James Cordon and Emma Buckley, the son of Grangeview Ten and Global Glengar overcame a couple of early bumps to go to the front and it was a demolition thereafter. The promising October ’23 whelp pulled further and further clear to complete a double on the night for Pat Buckley, seeing off Bushpark Isla by fourteen lengths. It was a truly outstanding debut and he is clearly one to keep on your radar going forward.

WILL SHOWS HIS POWER

Buckley had earlier initiated the double with another member of the brilliantly fast Droopys Sydney/ Singalong Sally litter, Singalong Will.

Much like his kennel companion, Singalong Will had shown real ability in qualifying but he had to work harder for victory.

He found little room to race in the early yards but ran on strongly to come through the pack to lead in the closing stages. The 1-3 favourite would eventually come through to beat Killer Wasp by two lengths in 29.52. Have no doubt, the winner will go considerably faster in the near future.

TASSIE A COMFORTABLE SCORER

Georgie Roche sent out the second fastest heat winner in the form of Tassie Ted.

The son of Serene Ace and Tassie Princess asserted in the early yards before going on to make every yard to beat Clona Levi by a length and a half in 29.01.

SALAH TOO STRONG

Esmonde Salah was a power-packed winner of the remaining heat, recovering from a tardy start to assert in the second half of the contest.

Owned by the Back In The Game Syndicate, the son of Malachi and Sidarian Fern charged down the back straight to assert before the third turn. It was all one-way traffic thereafter with Esmonde Salah racing on to win by five and a half lengths from Sunfore Sadie in 29.43.
