FOUR-TIMER FOR LULU AS SHE ROMPS TO GRI SPRING SUCCESS AT GALWAY

Peter Farrell

There was a brilliant €2,500 on offer last night at Galway Greyhound Stadium as the final of the GRI Spring A4/A5 525 went down for decision and it went with script as Cappaneale Lulu maintained her unbeaten streak to win in style.

Jointly owned by Michael Pardy and Jack Carroll, this is a rapidly improving September whelp who has really romped through this competition with minimal fuss, recording a personal best of 28.81 .10s in the semi finals. With just the five starts under her belt prior to last night, Cappaneale Lulu was chasing a four-timer as she donned the striped jacket and as a result of prior exploits, she was installed as the 4/6 favourite to turn the final into another routine victory. Quickly into stride from her wide berth, it was apparent that this was on the cards as she clocked a swift 3.32 opening sectional to lead comfortably. Taking a two length lead into the back straight from Dennys Best in second, the daughter of Good News and Lilly Luna set a powerful gallop into the penultimate turn and she never took her foot off the gas in her pursuit for this valuable prize. Maintaining a strong gallop rounding the final turn, Cappaneale Lulu ran out a most deserved winner as she crossed the line with five lengths in hand over Dennys Best, who ran a fine race, in second. The time, on what was a slower than normal track, was a good 29.17 .10s.
