MARIA BYRNE

MARIA BYRNE

The greyhound racing and coursing community lost a great friend in recent days with the sad passing of Maria Byrne.

Maria was a talented handler and prolific breeder and was responsible for many hugely talented greyhounds through the years.

Hailing from a well-known greyhound family, her father Frank was a control steward and an avid follower of both codes. Her brother Declan continues to be one of the best trainers on these shores and only two years ago captured the Irish Oaks with the Ballymac Beanie.

The majority of Maria’s dogs carried the ‘Dysert’ prefix and there were too many top-class performers to mention but a couple including Dysert Poldark, Dysert Moth and Dysert Davdor come to mind. She also trained the very talented Run On Boy, Bish Bash Bosh and Perilous Guide amongst others.

A popular figure on both on the track and at coursing meetings, she will be sadly missed by so many within the sport and we pass on our sincerest condolences to her sister Noeleen, brothers Eamonn, James and Declan, her extended family and many friends.

May She Rest In Peace.
