BOBBY BLAST RIVALS IN BURGESS DECIDER

BOBBY BLAST RIVALS IN BURGESS DECIDER

Ian Fortune

He may have finished second in each of his three previous career outings but Blackstone Bobby chose the right time to open his account as he came home clear in the final of the Burgess Kennels ON2 at Kilkenny on Friday night.

An ideal draw on the fence was to make all the difference for Pat Sinnott’s son of Droopys Sydney and Calzaghe Jan. The half brother to the recently retired Skywalker Barry, held his pitch into the turn to contain both Storys Law and Kapuka Warrior.

Asserting on the bend, the Michael O’Donovan trained youngster eased into a decisive advantage by halfway. Once doing so, the 6-4 favourite was never going to be denied in the €1,600 decider. Deadly Kyogo did recover from a slow start, showing fine back straight pace to move second but he was never going to worry the pace-setter.

Despite closing all the way to the line, he could never get close enough to even worry supporters of Blackstone Bobby. Blackstone Bobby raced on to a three and a half length victory in 28.96, the fastest time of the entire competition. Deadly Kyogo was second with Deadly Getaway another our and a half length adrift in third.
