BOGGER SERVES UP AN ACE IN BOURKE MEMORIAL DECIDER

Peter Farrell

There was a big pot on offer at Thurles Greyhound Stadium last night as the Mick & Mary Bourke Memorial A4 525 concluded and the €3,600 decider went the way of Bogger Ace.

In what proved a very close affair with numerous finalists crossing the line in tandem, it was Liam Peacock’s Bogger Ace (Pestana - Bogger Bonnie) who got the nod after a very determined display. Running from trap three, the 2/1 shot was only moderately into stride as both the inside runners of Kilvil Arnold and Cabra Venom showed the best of the early gears to lead.

Little to separate the pair down the back, Cabra Venom briefly led approaching the penultimate turn, however, at this point Bogger Ace was in the vicinity and he ran the bottom two bends beautifully to hit the front. Still all to play for on the run for home, the likes of Short Again and indeed Borna Kitty were absolutely flying at the finish, however, Bogger Ace just held his rivals to win by a head. A really thrilling conclusion in which Borna Kitty must also receive credit for finishing just a head adrift in second, the time was 29.66 .20s.
