Ian Fortune
Left Corner Back made it two wins from two starts at Enniscorthy on Thursday with the promising son of Here Comes Syd emerging the fastest second round scorer in the Good Cody @ Stud Open Unraced. He was easily the quickest of the four heat winners, while both semi-finals of the Michael Donohoe Memorial were also won in good style.
BACK LOOKS RAZOR-SHARP
Left Corner Back looked very sharp on debut, dominating form the outset but he went even faster to the turn on this occasion, posting a rapid 3.16 sectional.
He needed to, however. Ellies Gem also went up fast but Left Corner Back displayed fine early speed to put daylight between himself and his rival.
Once tuning into the back straight in front, there was a real inevitability to the result. Drawing further and further clear, Left Corner Back would emerge a fourteen-length winner over Ellies Gem in 29.04 on a track rated .40 slow.
STELLA NEXT FASTEST
To highlight his superiority, Rockmount Stella was the nest fastest heat winner, almost five lengths slower on the clock than Left Corner Back. In victory, Carol O’Connor’s Rockmount Stella was also maintaining an unbeaten career record.
The daughter of Malachi and Not So Hotshot flew to the turn, posting 3.14 to make every inch for an eight-length success over the staying on Ballymac Sorrel in 29.38. Strangely this was on the only raced rated .20 slow, perhaps in error.
RODENY IMPRESSES
Eoghain Whelan’s Bushpark Rodney also made it two from two in Heat 2, bursting his way to the front on the bend despite a slow start.
It was a very likeable display from the son of Malachi and Please Blossom as he eased on to beat Ashwood Sean by six lengths in 29.41.
JACK COMES THROUGH
Texas Jack was too strong for Scrahan Fox in the opening heat.
Thomas Leahy’s son of Coolavanny Hoffa and An Cailin Alainn tracked his rival into the back straight before taking over around the last two bends. He then eased on to beat Scrahan Fox by three lengths in 29.43.
HUMOUR FOLLOWS UP IN DONOHOE MEMORIAL
Sense Of Humour followed up his impressive opening round success in the semi-finals of the Michael Donohoe Memorial.
Prominent into the turn, he drove his way to the front at this point before going on to win decisively by nine lengths in 30.29. Ballinabola Mila came through for second with Karlow Jacksey qualifying in third.
JAKE TOO STRONG
Mary Murphy’s Ballinabola Jake was just a length slower on the cock in the opening heat, showing fine pace to take over from Foxy Lola into the third turn.
The son of Glengar Bale and Ballinabola Evie was right on the heels of the leader into the back straight but took over into the third turn. From there he eased on to win by five lengths in 30.36. De Bono Lad was just a half-length further back in third.
