VIEW FASTEST ON THE SHELBOURNE UNDERCARD

Ian Fortune

Urban View was the star on the undercard at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night as he produced a massive run to win in 28.39 for Reggie Roberts.

Not a noted fast starter, the son of Droopy Sydney and Urban Time broke smartly to lead into the turn. Once doing so, the May ’20 whelp eased right away to emerge a six-length scorer over Ropewalk Damsel.

LUCK NOT NEEDED FOR GIFT

There was so much to like about the display of A Lucky Gift as he led late to win the penultimate race for Jerry Melia, bringing his career tally to five wins from six starts.

Hawkfield Mia flew from trap three to dictate for much of the way but A Lucky Gift came with a withering run in the second half of the contest.

Over five lengths back in third at the second turn, the son of Ballymac Eske and Julies Paradise really did motor into the third turn to go second. He was still almost four lengths adrift of the leader but he quickly closed the gap on the run in to score by a half-length in a quick 28.48.

SUE REMAINS UNBEATEN

Margaret Walsh’s Silverspring Sue (Pestana/Cracked Lady) maintained her unbeaten record in the ninth race as she got up in the final strides to deny long-time leader Rattlefence.

The Peter Cronin trained bitch was having her second start at Shelbourne and was never too far away. Staying on strongly, she got up to lead Rattle Fence on the line for a neck verdict in 28.74.

FIRE CATCHES SYDNEY

There was another wonderful finish to the finale with the Graham Holland trained duo of Romeo On Fire and Galloping Sydney dueling it out to the line.

Galloping Sydney seemed to be getting the better of the argument when heading Warrenstown Boy early in the back straight.

Romeo On Fire was also moving with real purpose at this point and he closed into the third turn. Although seen as a front runner, Romeo On Fire certainly didn’t shirk the challenge. Closing with each stride on the run in, David Firmager’s son of Droopys Jet and Rushmoorbeatrice got up to score by a head in 28.70.
