CASH IS KING BAR NONE

The final of the Bar One Racing Crystal Vase Sprint featured on Sunday night’s card at Lifford Greyhound Stadium and after setting new figures for the 325-yard sprint one week prior, Gizmo Cash cemented his standing as one of the leading sprinters of his generation with another record-breaking performance in the €4,000 decider.

Kindly sponsored by Barney O’Hare of Bar One Racing, he has been richly rewarded for his sponsorship with a competition that has proved of the utmost quality from the outset. Heading into round one, Gizmo Cash was the standout name in hat and the Keeley McGee-trained speedster, who already held two track records around Mullingar and Shelbourne, could hardly have been more impressive in winning each and every round at the Northwest venue. A winner in a record equaling 17.25 in round one, the son of Droopys Jet and Down The Green got sharper and sharper as the stake progressed, culminating in a masterclass of sprinting which saw him land another big pot.

After posting 17.17 off the front last weekend, Gizmo Cash was understandably installed as the 4/6 favourite with Hullraiser next best at odds of 4/1. Another hugely impressive semi final winner was the Niall & Eric Foley-owned Zaconey Vulcan and he was available at odds of 5/1 to overcome a tricky draw in five. However, in truth this was all over at traprise. A bullet start from Gizmo Cash saw him post a sparkling 4.17 sectional on route to the opening corner and he had already amassed a healthy advantage over Zaconey Vulcan and the improving Newline Blake in third. Once again running a terrific bottom bend, it was a matter of how far for Gizmo Cash as he stormed up the Lifford hill to record a comfortable, four length win over Zaconey Vulcan, who performed with real merit, back in second. The time was another incredible record-breaking 17.09 and one suspects that record may stand for many years to come.
