It was something of a surprise when Pat Guilfoyle sent his unbeaten star Magical Luka over to the UK to his great friend Kevin Hutton with a crack at the Romford Puppy Cup in mind.
A couple of months on, it seems like an inspired decision.
The famous puppy competition is due to get underway on Friday night and after two sizzling runs at Romford – a 23.68 return on debut and an incredible 23.51 return last Friday – he is generally available at just 1-2 to land the competition that was first run back in 1975.
Let’s hope he does the business in the coming weeks and perhaps returns to Ireland with his unbeaten record intact. Of course, his record currently reads nine wins from nine starts after capturing the Carrick Aldo @ Stud ON1 400 at Dundalk in brilliant fashion before following up in the Moorstown Kennels Stakes at Tralee on this side of the water before his two wins in the UK.
