BROWNE McMONAGLE WITH A BRIGHT PROSPECT

Ian Fortune

Many top jockeys have dipped their toe into greyhound ownership in recent years and the latest of them is Dylan Browne McMonagle.

The young jock has the world at his feet, impressing so many over the past few years in his chosen profession, and he is clearly eyeing some glory in the greyhound game.

Dylan will be keeping a keen on eye on proceedings at Shelbourne Park on Friday as his first greyhound, a very well-bred bitch named Droopys Kathleen, will take her first steps to potential stardom in an Open Unraced competition.

There has already been some buzz about the daughter of Droopys Sydney and Droopys Dancer with her handler Robert Gleeson impressed with what he has seen so far. She posted a rapid 28.55 in her first official trial around Newbridge in late August and followed that up with a tremendous 18.55 trial at Shelbourne Park some three weeks later.

She faces a stern test on debut in the opening round of the Upcoming Puppy Oaks ON1 Bitch 525 but is clearly quite forward and will undoubtedly start favourite from a rails draw. There are a number of potentially very exciting bitches in the twelve-dog stake but few catch the eye like Droopys Kathleen. Best of luck to Dylan on his purchase and let’s hope she turns into a special one.
