A number of talented youngsters were on show at Shelbourne Park on Friday night with many superb performances including a couple of huge runs over the standard trip from the likes of Maireads Susie, Glengar Phantom and Droopys Mezza, while the semi-finals of the valuable Tote Betting ON1 350 were both won in style with Carrick Bruno setting a strong standard.
Carrick Bruno carried little luck on debut but appreciated a rails pitch in the second semi-finals of the ON1 sprint and certainly made the most of his opportunity. Trained by David Murray for Thomas Glynn, the son of King Sheeran and Ballyhoe Samhain was electric into the bend.
Slipping up the inside of Bushpark Lennie, Carrick Bruno eased on to beat his rival by two lengths in a rapid 18.57 with Glengar Robin again catching the eye in third, some two lengths further back.
SOVEREIGNTY IMPRESSES
There was a much improved display from Sovereignty in the opening heat.
The Francie Murray trained son of Ballymac Cashout and Cliffhanger taking charge in the early yards before pulling away to win in 18.79. Despite being forced to check his stride at the opening turn, Journalism, a litter brother to the winner, came storming through to take second, some three lengths back.
MEGA MEZZA
The first final on the card was that of the Shelbourne Museum A4/A5 and Keith Turner’s Droopys Mezza was in a league of her own, saying goodbye to graded company in some style.
In front from the opening strides, the Murt Leahy trained daughter of Pestana and Droopys Onestop eased further and further clear to eventually see off Tollstone Flash by six and a half lengths in 28.29.
SUSIE CONTINUES TO SHINE
Maireads Susie may have been only second choice in the betting for the final of the Talking Dogs TV A1 525 but she quickly set about adding to her already impressive tally.
Trained by Fraser Black for Joe Horan, the well-bred daughter of Droopys Sydney and Susie Sapphire has been in brilliant form and she made it three wins on the bounce with a typically professional front running display.
He main market rival was Amidus Hulk but he made a rare tardy start and was always playing catch up. In contrast, Maireads Susie broke smartly and made every inch to eventually come home six lengths clear in a very quick 28.17. Ryee ran on well to pick up Amidus Hulk on the line to take second.
PHANTOM GOES FASTEST
Richard Colwell’s Glengar Phantom returned to Shelbourne Park and gave an indication of what he was capable of in the penultimate race on the card.
Showing brilliant all-round pace to emerge a facile winner in a superb, fastest of the night, 28.15. The Pat Buckley trained son of Ballinabola Ed and Ambey Bamby was dominant as he saw off You’re the King by six lengths.
