GRI
We are delighted to confirm that a significant refurbishment programme is now underway at Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium, with works having commenced during the week of 17th August and will be complete in advance of the Laurels first round.
The project represents a significant investment in the future of Curraheen Park and has been divided into two phases. Phase 1 will focus on the refurbishment of the ground floor and associated public areas, with works taking place throughout August and September this year. Phase 2 is planned for early next year and will see a comprehensive refurbishment of the first floor and other public areas within the stadium.
Throughout the current phase of the project, our objective is to maintain operations wherever practically possible. However, due to the nature and scale of the works, there will inevitably be some temporary restrictions to access, facilities and services over the coming weeks.
During Phase 1, there will be no public access to the ground floor or ground-floor facilities. Alternative arrangements have been put in place to allow the stadium to continue operating, with paying customers accessing the stadium through the Corporate Entrance and additional access and turnstile arrangements available at the back gate for the duration of the works. The existing ground-floor food outlet will also be closed, with a temporary food offering and alternative facilities provided during this period. Regular patrons will have access to the first-floor area, which will be reserved for their use while the refurbishment works are underway.
We would ask all patrons and visitors to Curraheen Park during this period to please follow staff directions and the directional signage in place throughout the stadium. These temporary arrangements are designed to ensure the safety of our customers, staff and racing participants while allowing racing operations to continue.
The current works have been programmed into a relatively short timeframe to minimise disruption and ensure that Curraheen Park is ready in advance of one of the biggest events in its racing calendar, the 2026 Laurels, with the first round scheduled to commence on 26th September. We appreciate the patience, cooperation and support of our customers, owners, trainers, staff and wider stakeholders while the works are completed and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the upgraded facilities ahead of the Laurels.
Phase 2 of the refurbishment is planned for early next year and will see the first floor and additional public areas comprehensively upgraded. Further details regarding the scope, programme and any associated operational arrangements will be communicated closer to the commencement of those works.
This represents the first major refurbishment of Curraheen Park since the stadium opened in 2000 and is an important investment in the long-term future of the venue. Once both phases are complete, the project will provide a significantly more modern and welcoming environment, improving the facilities, overall look and feel of the stadium and, most importantly, the experience for customers, racing participants and visitors.
The investment also forms part of RCÉ/GRI’s wider 2025–2029 Strategic Plan and our commitment to enhancing the customer experience across our stadia through continued investment in facilities and the overall sporting and entertainment experience we provide.
As with any refurbishment project of this scale, the programme and timelines are subject to change as works progress. Further updates will be provided to customers and stakeholders as required throughout the project.
