Barry Drake

A recent third in the final of the Easter Cup, Droopys Fidget ran out a fantastic winner of the €10,000 to the winner TIME Greyhound Nutrition Select Stakes at Kilcohan Park on Saturday night.

Trained by Robert Gleeson for owners Paul Allen and John Gilson, the 7-4 favourite produced a good start, however, it was Jacktavern Bolt who came away quickest and he looked in control heading into the opening corner. It soon all changed as Jacktanvern Bolt found trouble and Droopys Fidget drove a great opening couple of bends. Ballymac Finn was soon alongside and Trinity Junior was in the mix out wide after producing a poor start.

Up front, Droopys Fidget was showing no signs of stopping and she kept finding at the head of affairs. It was another masterclass performance, displaying great pace throughout. A Lucky Julie ran a remarkable race in second, showing all sorts of pace to get within half as length, with a length back to Ballymac Finn in third place.

Barnahask Bob landed the A1 contest in 28.48. In the ownership of Ursula Neville, the June puppy put on a career-best performance to land the spoils. Showing lovely early speed to lead early on, the 2-1 shot kept on well to beat Daring Caesar, by four lengths.

In the closing race, an A0, Mr Hotstepper impressed with a 28.54 winning run. Owned and trained by George Roche, the even-money favourite was returning to winning ways with a powerful winning display. Keeping on well, he beat Mooncoin Wildcat, by three lengths, in 28.54.

In the seventh of the night, an A1, it was Barro Ellie who won for Geard Gahan. The 6-4 favourite just made the corner in front, showing lovely speed on the back straight, she scored by three lengths from My Lil Shazza, in 28.46.

In other races, Ballymac Opera ran out a wide winner of the D2 750. Moving clear early, Liam Dowling's 4-5 favourite was in total control throughout and she came home a clear winner, in 40.59.

It was a night to remember for George Roche as Jacktavern Bucks got the ball rolling after winning the A6 contest, in 29.19, at odds of 1-2.

Barntown Bono (Evens) made it a George Roche double before it was a dream treble in the closing race. Bono clocked a fabulous 28.65 in winning the A2 contest.

The added prize money was a real bonus in Kilcohan on Saturday night. All races were guaranteed a minimum winners prize €1,000.
