FUNDRASING NIGHT FOR KATIE AT CURRAHEEN PARK

Barry Drake

On Saturday June 8th the family and friends of Katie O’Keeffe will host a “A Night at The Dogs” in Curraheen Park, Cork.

Katie O’Keeffe is just 4 years old, a kind-hearted, funny, enthusiastic little girl living the normal life of any 4-year-old, being a big sister to baby Roisin and bringing laughter and joy to her parents Siobhan & Kevin every single day, that is until March 4th, 2024.

On March 4th After a visit to the GP who referred Katie directly to Clonmel Hospital who in turn referred her directly & very swiftly to Temple Street where in the coming days they would get the news that no parent should have to hear and that would change their lives and the lives of their families forever.

During the initial days in Temple Street Katie underwent many tests and was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). DIPG is a brain tumour that is highly aggressive and unfortunately due to its location surgery is not an option, the recommended treatment is radiation therapy however, there is no cure.

Ireland has very little to offer patients diagnosed with DIPG & with a prognosis of less than a year & the only option of treatment being radiation therapy which may improve symptoms in some cases the family have had to look outside of Ireland for other treatment options.  The medical treatment overseas has shown success in the clinical trial stages at slowing down the tumours growth, however medical treatment overseas comes at a very high cost.

To support Katies Family with the expense of this treatment, her family and friends have gathered to run this fundraising event which can be supported in many ways:
