JET FASTEST IN LORD OF CHARITY AS MEL IS WITHDRAWN

Ian Fortune

After her stunning opening round display, Bushpark Mel was sadly a non-runner from the second round of the Lord of Charity Open Unraced at Enniscorthy on Monday.

In her absence, Mystical Jet had the honour of going fastest, posting 29.01 in the opening heat.

Representing Pat Buckley and Tim Murphy, the well bred son of Ballymac Cashout and Mystical Luna was moderately into stride but charged into the turn to force his way to the front. Moving off the corner, he bumped into the early pace-setter Elsiemazie before taking a narrow advantage into the back straight. Timeless Times would move second down the back straight and press Mystical Jet in the latter stages but the pair were still separated by three parts of a length on the line. Elsiemazie was six and a half lengths further adrift in third.

BILLY SETS A STRONG GALLOP

Ardera Billy and Amazing Spark were next fastest with both winning in 29.14.

Michael Meade’s Ardera Billy displayed fine early speed to open a clear advantage to the third turn in Heat 2 but was all out in the closing yards as Racenight Ivan closed pretty rapidly. Ardera Billy held on by three parts of a length. Coolavanny Love was best of the remainder, some four and a half lengths further adrift.

SPARK SHOWS CLASS

Amazing Spark had to work a little harder after finding traffic in the early yards.

Moving off from the inside box, the son of Signet Ace and Free From Desire took a couple of bumps but was will prominent into the back straight.

He took another bump at the second bend but displayed fine back straight pace to move past the early leader Bounceback Chico into the third turn. From there, Maria Kennedy’s youngster eased on to win by three lengths from Bounceback Chico in 29.14. Ballinabola June was the third qualifier, a further four and a half lengths back in third.

BUCKO DOMINATES

Cora Doyle was responsible for the other heat winner Pinewood Bucko.

The son of Dromana Bucko and Flying Lola was sharper than his rivals and he proceeded to make every yard for a comfortable seven length victory over Glenbrook Bucko in 29.28. Wishful Peggy was just a half length further adrift in third.
