Friday’s card at Kilkenny will feature the opening round of the Deadly Kennels McCalmont Cup A1 525.
Once again sponsored by Gary Hannon, the €7,000 winner’s purse and €15,000 total prize pool, there was huge interest and as a result the opening round will feature 42 dogs rather than the 36 advertised.
It means there are seven heats with three to progress from each as well as the three fastest fourth place finishers. It seems certain to generate some superb racing over the coming weeks. Incidentally, Friday’s meeting will also act as a fundraiser for Lourdes Ossory Pilgrimage with the dogs for the opening race set to go to traps at 7.30pm. Weigh in is between 6.30 and 7pm.
CHAMPION OPEN UNRACED
Entries are now also being invited for the €32,000 Kilkenny Track Champion Open Unraced which begins on Friday, April 3rd.
This year’s renewal will boast a winner’s prize of €15,000.
