Bobby Boucher produced a fine display to capture the feature at a busy Shelbourne Park on Tuesday night, the final of the October Monthly Novice ON2 525.
Much like his film character namesake, the son of Ballymac Bolger and Tigress Lily displayed real dash and purpose to emerge a good winner of the €3,000 contest.
Prominent from the outset after a fast start, he was headed into the turn by the early paced Fun Onthe Island but was always close enough to mount a serious challenge. Fun Onthe Island continued to dictate the pace down the back straight, going three lengths clear but Bobby Boucher began to bridge the gap around the last two bends.
By the time they turned for home, Bobby Boucher was almost on terms and he stayed on well to emerge triumphant for Padraig Costello. Bobby Boucher hit the line with a half length in hand on Fun Onthe Island in 28.70 (rated .20 fast).
TED GOES FAST
There were some fine runs on the undercard including a massive effort from Kate Dwan’s Borna Ted.
In the penultimate race with the son of Black Parachute and Borna Flame getting loose on the turn to emerge a wide-margin winner in a rapid 28.26. He would go on to beat Daithis Millie by fourteen lengths in 28.26 (.20 fast).
ACE WORTH FOLLOWING
Owen McKenna and the Auld Creator Syndicate had a fine winner in the form of Mackeys Ace as he ran away from his rivals to win the sole sprint in the manner of a greyhound with a bright future.
The well-bred son of Signet Ace and Cielo flew into the bend, opening a clear lead on his rivals.
Oakfront Ace closed the gap a little around the second turn but Mackeys Ace kicked again to increase his advantage in the closing yards for a two length victory in 18.76.
DIPPY OPENS ACCOUNT IN STYLE
Dippy is also worthy of a mention. She has been knocking on the door but remained a maiden until running away with the third race on the card for Barry Clancy and owners Vincent and Lee Mannion.
The daughter of Doolin Duke and Ravenswood Sorm was simply too good for her rivals on this occasion, getting loose into the bend before running right away to win by seven lengths in 28.59.
With the track rated .20 fast, it means she will only move up one grade, although she has the final of the A2 to look forward to next week before stepping up in grade.
Incidentally, Missy Tashadelek came home fast to win the second heat for Neilus O’Connell and Thomas Lynch. The daughter of Broadstrand Bono and Coolavanny Charm came between rivals on the run in, riding a couple of bumps to win by a half length in 28.69.
