SORREL WITH A GOOD CODY ROMP AT ENNISCORTHY

Ballymac Sorrel emerged a tremendous winner of the Good Cody @ Stud Open Unraced at Enniscorthy on Thursday night for Pat Buckley and owners Cormac and Charlie Doyle.

Although not blessed with luck in the opening two rounds, having to settle for a qualifying spot, the son of Ballymac Vic and Ballymac Wisdom really grew into the stake, emerging a facile winner of his semi-final in a rapid 28.82 before again coming home clear in Thursday’s €3,200 decider.

Sent to traps the 5-4 joint favourite alongside Left Corner Back, luck was on his side with the talented fawn afforded racing room into the turn. Left Corner Back moved straight off the fence, bumping into Scrahan Fox.

Ellies Gem also missed the start from three, meaning Ballymac Sorrel could move across to the fence at his own leisure. Once clearing the turn, the result was never in doubt. Ballymac Sorrel kept his rivals at arm’s length throughout before easing on to win by four lengths from the fast-finishing Texas Jack in 29.01. Scrahan Fox was another two lengths back in third.
