TONY MCNAMEE

Greyhound sport lost a great friend with the sad passing of Tony McNamee earlier in the week.

While Tony was primarily a coursing man, serving on the executive of the ICC for sixteen years, while also serving as President from 2003 to 2008, he also had a great interest in the track.

In fact, Tony served as a board member of the GRI from the start of 2012 for three years. During that time, he truly put in the miles and was an ever-present face at the track. He also owned some useful trackers in his time, all trained by his great friend, Fraser Black.

Droopy Betty was perhaps the best of them. A top-class lady with terrific pace, she competed in top company through her career. Outside of greyhound sport, Tony was also involved in the GAA, being a life-time member of St Laurence’s GAA Club. A respected farmer, he also served as a member of the finance department of Kildare County Council for three decades.

But it as a doggy man we will remember Tony. A great character with a wonderful wit, he was the best of company and those that knew him will miss him dearly.

We would like to send on our sincerest condolences to his wife Mary, his sons John, Anthony, Kevin and Colm, his beloved grandchildren, Abigail, Grace, Ryan and Darragh, his extended family and many friends.

May He Rest In Peace.
