YOUNGSTERS PUT ON A SHOW AT SHELBOURNE

Ian Fortune

It was quite predictable that there would be some brilliant displays on Friday’s card at Shelbourne Park and is certainly delivered.

The opening round of the Celtic Cooling Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Open Unraced saw some very bright prospects impress both in victory and defeat, while the two finals on the card were also won in mighty impressive fashion by Uncle Jim and Comeon Me Girl.

There was also a massive run from Carrick Coley as he left his rivals standing in the semi-finals of the Barking Buzz A2 525 to clock 28.18.

SHELBY GOES THROUGH THE GEARS

Roaming Shelby looked ready for action in the opening heat of the Celtic Cooling Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Open Unraced, flashing from trap four to dominate for Graham Holland and owners Paul Ellis and Seamus Hagan.

The well-bred son of Tommy Shelby and Roaming Shari got first run on Anothercupoftea and kept his promising rival at arm’s length throughout.

Maintaining a strong gallop to the line, Roaming Shelby emerged a comfortable and rather impressive three-length winner over Anothercupoftea in 28.41.

PACMAN SHOWS HUGE EARLY DASH

Minutes later Graham Holland completed a double with Ballymac Pacman showing massive early speed to win the second heat.

Owned by Bev Lochead, the half-brother to Ballymac Setanta was so impressive to the third turn.

Flying into the bend, he missed an opening bend scrimmage and powered into a massive lead to halfway. It was at the third turn that his stride began to shorten but he held on despite tying up quite notably. The son of Ballymac Cooper and Ballymac Art went on to beat Kaladin by five lengths in 28.80. Ballymac Hitman was just a neck away in third after a less than clear passage.

TEASER COMES THROUGH LATE

Droopys Teaser came through the closing yards to get the better of Zenith Jet and Old Warrior in Heat 3.

The last named set a searching galloper, leading into the home straight before fading quite notably.

In contrast, the Pat Buckley trained Droopys Teaser ran right to the line. James Corden’s well-bred daughter of Dromana Bucko and Droopys Thelma was second from the outset but hit the front late to beat the fast-finishing Zenith Jet by a length in 28.63. Old Warrior was another length away in third.

GUNBOAT FIRES

The well-built Group Gunboat made light work of his task in the final heat, leading early to win for David Hanley and Marie Gilbert.

The son of Ballymac Bolger and Expert Group ran a clean bend from his inside berth to assert and he ran right to the line to eventually see off Slippery Felix by two lengths in a quick 28.45. Freeway Bruce was the same distance away in third.

JIM SHOWS HIS DASH

Uncle Jim claimed the €2,000 final of the TIME Puppy Derby Starts Soon A1 NB 525, showing some of the early speed that made his dam Susie Sapphire one of the all-time greats.

The massive son of Droopys Sydney shot from trap two and quickly asserted at the head of affairs.

Avoiding any opening bend traffic, Uncle Jim proceeded to make every yard for Karol Ramsbottom and Peter Comerford. He would go onto win by four lengths from the always-second Chickys Sally in a quick 28.33.

GIRL SHOWS HER CLASS

Comeon Me Girl displayed a willing attitude and plenty of class to capture the Puppy Derby Starts in July A0 NB 525 for Mark Robinson for John Lee.

Although not the fastest into stride, she charged into the bend, forcing her way up the inside of most of her rivals to assert.

It was a decisive move from the daughter of Newinn Taylor and Kildallon Tilly. Kapuka Coley took up the chase and ran right to the line but Comeon Me Girl was not for catching as she stayed on well to beat her rival by two and a half lengths in 28.37.

FLYER COMPLETES A ROBINSON DOUBLE

Mark Robinson later completed a double with Shebeen Flyer dominating in his heat of the Barking Buzz A2 525.

Daniel Curtis’ son of Dromana Bucko and Glynnscross Judy broke fastest from the outside box and never saw a rival as he went further and further clear to win by fourteen lengths in 28.38.

COLEY GOES VERY FAST

Carrick Coley went even faster in the other heat as he too made every inch.

Trained by David Murray for Thomas Glynn, the very well-bred son of Dromana Bucko and Ballymac Sanjose shot from four and was clear from the outset. He would eventually go on to see off Darocketman by ten lengths in 28.18.
