Tom Ahern proudly returned to Milford Care Centre this week to handover an impressive €18,465.80 to Fundraising Manager Anne Marie Hayes, the proceeds of the Night at the Dogs Fundraiser he held in Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Saturday 7th October.

Speaking after making the presentation Tom was keen to thank everyone who supported the event in some way.

“I’d just like to thank everyone who contributed to this night in so many various ways, from those who sold tickets, purchased tickets, contributed raffle prizes, people who sponsored races – thank you very much.

For everyone that attended on the night, including special guests Barry Nash, Kyle Hayes and Ian Fortune (Greyhound Journalist) and everyone else who contributed and made the night so great, thank you so much.

It’s all you that have contributed this so, it’s a wonderful cause and I’m glad to have done it. Thank you.”

The driving force behind his fundraising efforts was a desire to give back to the charity which have been a tremendous support to Tom’s family this year, with his late mother receiving hospice care prior to her passing in May.

Tom is a Welfare Officer for Greyhound Racing Ireland and for him Limerick Greyhound Stadium was a natural first stop for his fundraising efforts saying that he knew that the greyhound community would get behind the efforts and support it as best they could.

Speaking when launching the fundraiser, Tom said, “ Earlier this year my family and I saw first hand the importance of such a facility with the passing of our mother.  The care that she received from both the home care team and the staff on site in Castletroy were second to none.  In supporting this event you are donating and assisting a friend, a neighbour or family member who may require the services of Milford Hospice in the future”.

On Saturday 7th October, Tom will see his vision come to life with a major fundraising night at Limerick Greyhound Stadium.  The night will not only feature fantastic racing but will also include free face painting for the kids, live music after racing The Roadrunners.  Star guests on the night will include The Liam MacCarthy and some well known faces who played a part in bringing it home to Limerick!
