There have been reports of cases of leptospirosis in dogs in parts of the country. Leptospirosis is a disease that is best known for causing jaundice in dogs. It is fatal in most cases unless treated very early after onset. Of greater concern, is the danger that leptospirosis poses for people who come into contact with a dog suffering from the disease. It is highly contagious to both humans and other dogs.

Greyhound Racing Ireland wishes to advise, that from and including May 1st 2024, it will be a condition of sale, that all purchasers of greyhounds at licensed auctions, must be able to furnish their Irish Coursing Club (ICC) Owner Registration Number to the greyhound stadium in advance of bidding on any greyhound at the auction. This number will be recorded by the stadium for traceability purposes.

The Irish Retired Greyhound Trust (IRGT) has assisted in the rehoming of more than 2000 retired greyhounds in 2021, a new yearly record for the charity organisation. Established by Rásaíocht Con Éireann (RCÉ) / Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) in 1997, the IRGT is funded through owners’ prizemoney deductions, matched donations by GRI and private donations in its work to rehome greyhounds after retirement and promote them as domestic pets.

On November 22nd, 2021, pursuant to Article 36 of the Greyhound Industry (Racing) Regulations 2007-2021, the Board of Rásaíocht Con Éireann have directed that it will be a condition of entry at RCÉ Licenced Stadia, that Owners/Trainers must have updated all outstanding records on RCÉTS relating to the greyhounds/pups in his/her care. Failure to do this will result in race entries automatically not being accepted for racing for this owner/trainer until such time as the deficiency is rectified. Once relevant updates are provided, entries will be accepted again.

These have typically included individuals who undertake transporting greyhounds abroad for export.
