A VALUABLE ULTRA-MARATHON AT SHELBOURNE

Ian Fortune

While the Shelbourne Marathon has been run as an 850yd competition over the past two years, it was always the plan to introduce a similar competition over the two-lap 1025yd trip to a time of the year more suitable for ultra-marathon performers.

It is for that reason that the introduction of an Open 1025 on Saturday, July 11th is of some significance. Hopefully, the contest will fill and why wouldn’t it with an impressive €1,000 on offer to the winner but should there be enough interest, it could open the doors to more races and perhaps competitions over the extended trip.

Two-lap has been a big loss on the calendar and the re-introduction of some marathon racing will come as a real plus with variety the spice of life.

Details of the Shelbourne Open 1025 are as follows: Shelbourne Open 1025 yards for 6 greyhounds at €50 with the winner receiving €1,000.
