The Islandbridge Open Sprint will commence at Shelbourne Park on Friday night and it’s not surprising to see Boylesports install Ballinakill Alf as the hot favourite for outright glory.
A nominee for 2023 Sprint of the Year at the recent National greyhound awards, he has been in tremendous form since the start of the year and stands out as the one to beat in the famous two-bend competition.
His backers will have to settle for even money, however. Given the nature of sprint racing and the fact that is run over three rounds, that doesn’t allow much room for error.
His kennel companion Romeo Taylor is second in the market at 8-1. He recently ran well in the Greyhound & Petworld Supersprint at Curraheen Park, while he was a tremendous winner of the Rural Kennels Open Unraced at Clonmel earlier in the year.
Hawkfield Scar is available at 10-1, while Getup Me Son is 12-1 after an impressive sprint victory at Shelbourne Park last weekend. Uncle Tom and Beepers Evan are next in at 14-1 with Romeo Falco and Cree Jo Jo the only other runners shorter than 20-1 at 16-1.
