Peter Farrell
Kindly sponsored by Tommy Kerrigan, the final of the Trap 1 Greyhound Supplies A4 525 was the feature on Saturday night’s card at Thurles and it went the way of Montore Harry as he secured his fifth career victory.
Owned by James Treacy, Montore Harry had failed to raise a flag in the previous rounds leading up to the decider but he picked the perfect night to get it right as he landed the €1,200 in relatively comfortable fashion. Breaking only moderately from trap six, it was Cabra Hasty who showed first from five but the eventual winner was afforded plenty of racing room out wide and he swooped the opening corner to take a three length lead into the back. At this point, it was always going to take a monumental effort from his rivals to get back on terms. Followed in second down the back by Anytime Boss, it really was a race for the minor placings as Montore Harry flew into the bottom bends firmly in charge. Staying on well in the closing stages, the son of Farloe Blitz and Montore Sally maintained a solid gallop to cross the line three lengths clear of Anytime Boss in second. The time was a decent 29.52 .20s and many congratulations are extended to James Treacy on a fine victory.
KYLER LANDS NOVICE STAKE
Elsewhere on the card, the supporting act was the final of the €625 to the winner RCETS ON2 525 and this went the way of 2/1 chance, Killduff Kyler.
After a fine performance in round one, Coolbawn Buddy went off as the 6/4 favourite but after a poor start from the favourite, Killduff Kyler had gotten first run on his rival with a flash start wearing the white jacket. Immediately darting across to gain a rails pitch, the son of Ice On Fire and Guiding Star quickly manufactured a five length lead down the back from Shaws Trigger in second. Jointly owned by Patrick Maher and John O’Dea, the improving black was never under any pressure thereafter and he tracked beautifully around the bottom two bends, before staying on stoutly to score. Six lengths adrift of Coolbawn Buddy crossing the line, the time for Killduff Flyer was 29.57 .20s.
IN OTHER RACES
In the opening race of the night, an A7/A8 525, Comer Bomber was mighty impressive as the December puppy made it two career victories from just five starts. A son of track favourite Great Blue Shark and Arterbury, Comer Bomber went off as the 5/4 favourite and after a fast start from one, he made his intentions clear as he galloped to a virtual solo for his owners, the Comer-Syndicate. Setting a brilliant gallop down the back, a pair of binoculars were needed in behind as he ran out a comfortable, seven length winner in 29.46 .20s.
There was a veteran winner in race three as Cabra Veyron won for the fourteenth time for owner Paddy Scally. A September 19’ whelp, the son of Kinloch Brae and Cabra Ebony, Cabra Veyron broke well from five and showed his customary early gears to lead around the opening bend. Once doing so, the 5/4 chance was never going to be caught. Setting a smart gallop down the back, Heavens Dollar got to within two lengths of the leader crossing the line but it was a comfortable victory for this veteran as he stopped the clock in 29.46 .20s.
Race six was the BoyleSports A4 525 and Astro Bale finished very well to record a fourth career victory for his owner, Shane McCormack. Running from trap two, the 2/1 chance sat second behind the early paced-Micks Elite for the majority of the contest but was to turn the screw in the closing stages to snatch victory. Finishing strong to secure a one length win over his rival, the son of Magical Bale stopped the clock in a fast 29.22 .20s.
The concluding race on the card saw Lillys Pearl get back to winning ways for the N-4-Syndicate and trainer, David Flanagan. Running from trap six, the well-bred daughter of Droopys Sydney and String Of Pearls came away racing to record a 1.66 sectional and lead. Once doing so, Lillys Pearl set a brilliant gallop to come home four lengths too strong for Corporate Alert in second. The time was rapid 29.09 .20s.
