The opening round heats of the Trap 1 Greyhound Supplies Unraced took place at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium and there was a nice double in the heats for Kevin O’Brien as both Newinn Syd and Newinn Sensation scored in style.
The quickest on the clock came in the opening heat of the night as Newinn Syd justified his even money price tag in romping to victory. Only an October 21’ whelp, the puppy qualified in rather modestly in 29.70 but he duly shaved a second off that time with an incredible display. Running from trap two, the son of Droopys Sydney and Newinn Mimi paced up brilliantly to lead and once doing so, he quickly opened a healthy advantage. Setting a strong gallop down the back, there was little to dislike about the performance of Newinn Syd as he never gave his rivals an inch in running out a five length winner over Dysert Eugene in second. The time was 28.71 .10s.
The double for Kevin O’Brien was completed in the final heat of the night as Newinn Sensation duplicated his litter brother’s performance in running out a convincing winner. The blue was sharp at boxes as he exited trap six in charge and he showed brilliant early pace to round the opening turn in control. In full flow down the back, Newinn Sensation was well named as he maintained a relentless gallop all the way to the winning line. Seven lengths clear of Rockhouse Holly in second, the time was 29.00 .10s.
IN OTHER HEATS
Heat two was landed by Cloncunny Sydney and he was another to justify strong support. Sent off the 4/6 favourite, the JJ Scully-owned heavyweight, trained by Adam Dunford, set a strong gallop throughout to come home one and a half lengths clear of Goldcash Ice, who also ran an impressive race, in second. The time for the son of Droopys Sydney and Cloncunny Eye was 29.13 .10s.
The Arthur Morrissey-owned Pepe Noir landed heat three as he showed the superior stamina to overcome his rivals. A very young son of Pestana and Suirview Kea (Nov’ 21), Pepe Noir turned third in behind Ruffian Angel but showed good determination to overturn a four length deficit and win by half a length. The time was 29.16 .10s.
The remaining heat was landed by Mindies Blizs as he romped to the most comprehensive win of the night. Owned by Brian Hannigan, the son of Droopys Sydney and Mindies Lollie didn’t come away too fluently from four but nipped around in front after heavy traffic in behind. In turn, this enabled him to go clear and run out a twelve length victor, in a time of 29.14 .10s.
