TROOPER THUMPS RIVALS IN TRAP 1 UNRACED AT CLONMEL

Peter Farrell

The second round heats of the Trap 1 Greyhound Supplies Unraced 525 dominated proceedings at Clonmel Greyhound Stadium last night and it was Chasing Trooper who stole the show with an emphatic performance in the opening heat.

Only a September 21’ whelp, Chasing Trooper showed a lovely turn of early pace in his debut start last week before shipping a bump, however, he avenged that defeat in some style last night with a blistering performance. Running from trap one, Chasing Trooper broke level with Yououghttaknow but he displayed sizzling early speed to rally up the rail and he quickly manufactured a four length advantage heading into the back. From here, the son of Malachi and Absolutely Ace set a relentless gallop, stopping the third bend sectional in 16.10, and he maintained a powerful gallop all the way to the line. A comfortable, five and a half length winner, Chasing Trooper led home Yououghttaknow in a serious time of 28.54.

HEAT WATCH

Next best in terms of the clock was Mindies Blizs (Droopys Sydney - Mindies Lollie) in the final heat of the night. Owned by Brian Hannigan, this contest proved thrilling to say the least as Mindies Blizs showed first from trap three and immediately shot across to the rails to lead early. Holding a narrow advantage heading into the back straight from Goldcash Ace in second, it remained nip and tuck thereafter with Mindies Blizs coming out on top, by a neck, crossing the line. The time was 28.74 off a 16.24 sectional.

Heat two of the night was landed by Newinn Sensation who also made it back-to-back wins in the stake. Trained by Graham Holland for Kevin O’Brien, this proved another routine victory for Newinn Sensation as he pinged the lids from trap six to swoop the opening corner and take an unassailable eight length lead into the back straight. Posting a slick 16.10 to the third bend, the son of Droopys Sydney and Newinn Mimi was running on empty up the home straight but he still managed to record a seven length  victory over the staying-on Fantasy Moll in second. The time was 28.95.

The remaining heat of the night was landed by Rockhouse Holly (Good News - Bubbly Firebird) who produced another big finish to notch her first career victory and come out best in a three-way photo finish. Owned by Michael Westlake, Rockhouse Holly broke best of all from four but couldn’t go early on as both Pepe Noir and Cloncunny Sydney outpaced their rival. Sitting some eight lengths off the pace down the back, the lead was being contested between both Pepe Noir and Cloncunny Sydney, both of which were causing one another problems, and this allowed Rockhorse Holly to make up valuable ground in behind. Now building ahead of steam, Rockhouse Holly stormed around the outside on the run for home and she pipped both Pepe Noir and Cloncunny Sydney on the line with a short-head separating all rivals. The time was 29.29.
