Tonight’s action at Mullingar will serve as a celebration of the late Pat Curtin’s life with many of the races named after the very best greyhounds he trained during his incredible career.
But, of course, the feature is the final of the Pat Curtin Memorial Cup and competition sponsor Ian Reilly will be gunning to win the prize with Droopys Riveria.
She may have to settle for a minor role, however, as Supa Mac has looked very good and may actually be far better housed in five this evening despite racing as an inside seed. The Paul Hennessy trained star remains unbeaten in the competition and posted a stunning 28.96 in the second round, becoming the first dog to dip under 29 seconds for the 525yd trip since 2004.
Supa Mac has fine pace from start to finish and one suspects he could produce something special to land the €3,500 prize this evening. Droopys Riveria is the obvious danger from an ideal draw on the fence, while Ballivors Bullet is also capable racing prominently. The nine-card at Mullingar gets underway at 7.50pm.
