YOUNGSTERS WORTH FOLLOWING IN DUNDALK’S CARROLL MEMORIAL

Ian Fortune

This evening’s card at Dundalk is headlined by the opening round of the Paddy & Edmund Carroll Memorial A3 525.

There are six heats in all and many of the most eye-catching runners are of the young, lightly raced variety.

VIPER TO STRIKE

These include Dryland Viper in the opening heat.

A good second on debut to the hugely promising Magical Marty, he posted 21.28 for the 400yd trip but gave the impression he could go faster in the future. He makes his four-bend debut tonight but is expected to have a big say.

Of his rivals, the experienced Sing Hallelujah would be a major player of returning to something close to his best, while the lightly raced Blue Rinse could also figure if putting her best foot forward.

PORTER JUST GETS THE NOD

The second heat is a very open affair. In truth, picking a winner is very difficult and much will come down to the start.

Purely down to the fact that he is open to so much improvement, More Porter gets the nod for Jason Whyte.

CERT AND JET APPEAL

Both Highview Cert and Partners Jet displayed promise in the recent Bar One Betting ON1 400 and they can come to the fore in Heat 3.

The former has the better of the draw in three and is selected to lead home his rival.

DEBRUYNE TO SCORE

A recent 21.12 spin for the 400yd trip suggests that Ronnies Debruyne is going the right way.

If he manages to get loose on his return to four bends, he may have too much ammunition for his rivals in Heat 4.

ROO CAN GET THE JUMP OPN RIVALS

Realistic claims can be made for a number of those in Heat 5 but slight preference is for Ravenwood Roo on the inside of the track.

Gerry Barber’s youngster has yet to win a race but has shown enough in recent outings to suggest a first win is coming. She is chosen ahead of Cloughtaney Joy and Makedatup.

TOM TO FINISH NIGHT IN STYLE

Kurtis Bain sends out a promising type in Ohtheretom in the final heat.

He stayed on well to win his latest outing over the sprint trip at Dundalk and could potentially have been lined up for this stake. He is a pretty confident choice to emerge on top at the expense of Rocking Lad and veteran Tahina Ross.

The action at Dundalk gets underway at 7.50pm sharp.
