The final of the €4,000-to-the-winner Northwest Greyhound Supplies A4/A5 525 featured at Lifford Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night and went largely to script, with Kilara Charli asserting early to power to a deserved success.
With early pace always likely to prove decisive in a contest riddled with stamina, Kilara Charli and Tetra Eco looked set to come to the fore in the opening exchanges, and so it proved as the pair broke smartly to turn the contest into a two-dog affair.
Trained by Dessie Kerrigan for Robert Brolly, Kilara Charli donned the blue jacket and, despite being briefly headed by Tetra Eco in trap three, the inside proved crucial as ‘Charli’ railed tightly to lead into the back straight. Quickly drawing clear of the remainder, the pair went head-to-head down the back, with Kilara Charli showing the superior pace at this stage to lead by one length.
In behind, Lemon Donnacha occupied third, while the remainder of the field were already cut well adrift. With the outcome still in the balance between the leading duo approaching the closing stages, it was the son of Dromana Bucko and Kilara Odessa who showed great determination to fend off every challenge and score by a length and a half from Tetra Eco in second. Lemon Donnacha filled third, a further one and three parts of a length adrift, while the winning time of 28.78 underlined the strength of the performance.
