PAVILION SETS A STRONG PACE IN FAIR WARRIOR

PAVILION SETS A STRONG PACE IN FAIR WARRIOR

Ian Fortune

Pavilion Fire produced one of the great runs at Mullingar on Sunday afternoon to claim his place in the final of the RPGTV Fair Warrior Open 400.

The opening heat saw Hawkfield Scar cause an upset at odds of 10-1 in a rapid 21.27 but Pavilion Fire went a full eleven spots faster in the second heat.

Hawkfield Ava flew from traps yet again to set a strong pace to the turn in the second heat but Pavilion Fire also went up fast to sit a relatively close second. It was clear to those that has been paying attention in recent weeks that Pavilion Fie was simply too close.

Richard Irwin’s powerful son of Good News and Bubbly Bluebird flew down the back straight to master Hawkfield Ava before hitting the line a length to the good in 21.17. The Aidan McVeigh trained star posted the seventh fastest time ever recorded for the 400yd trip to see off Hawkfield Ava, while Boylesports Coco was another three and a half lengths adrift in third.

SCAR DOMINATES

Hawkfield Scar took a massive leap forward to win the opening in heat for Pat Doran and Jerry Connors.

A 21.67 winner ahead of the Fair Warrior at Mullingar, he went considerably faster on this occasion. Showing tremendous early dash, the well bred son of Good News and Brownstown Tango held a two length advantage into the turn and he maintained that lead right to the line. Zippy Caning chased him hard but Hawkfield Scar came home two lengths to the good in 21.27. The third qualifying spot went to So Its Rapid, another three and a half lengths back.
