RIGHT WAY THE TIME CHAMP AT KILKENNY

RIGHT WAY THE TIME CHAMP AT KILKENNY

Ian Fortune

Shem O’Donnell and Robbie Dowling floated out of Kilkenny on Friday night, not because of the heavy rain that affected the country through the day, but rather due to the success of their aptly named Goingtherightway in the final of the TIME Greyhound Nutrition A3 525.

It was always going o need a superb display from one of the six finalists to land the €5,000 prize and Goingthrightway had clearly read the brief. Although sent to traps a 4-1 chance, the son of Pestana and Knockdrinna Winx was always in charge once holding his pitch at the turn to slip around in front.

Both the fast starting Avongate Playboy and the favourite Killinure King went up fast to challenge but the ormer edged inwards, leaving a shortage of room on the bend. With the inside line in his favour, Goingtherightway shot to the front.

Once doing so, it was nothing short of a procession for the March ’21 whelp. Killinure King did all he could to stay in touch but it was futile. Goingthrightway is strong on the bunny and he eased away to eventually emerge an impressive five lengths winner in 29.14 (rated .30 slow). Killinure King was second with Freedom Reader coming through for third another half lengths adrift.

BIG RUNS ON UNDERCARD

The fastest run on the night predictably came in the quality-packed Open 525.

Here Kapuka Warrior justified favouritism with a trap to line success, eventually seeing off the running on McNeill by five and a half lengths in a rapid 28.94 (.30 slow).

Thre was also a fine run from George Roche’s Peters Sydney in the six-bend race. Well off the pace for much of the way, the strong running son of Droopys Sydney charged to the front in the closing yards to see off Laughil King by three parts of a length in 41.15.
